Moved to Coyne Court Bergenfield, NJ
New Beginnings, Moved from Mom's old home at 369 Tenafly Dr. into a single room in a house in Bergenfield. A woman saw my add on Craigslist and responded ending my 3 days in limbo at hotels in the area. A life saver as her home is a 10 minute drive from Mother whom I visit with daily. My saving grace is flying my DJI Spark Drone that gives me a lot of pleasure from its aerial camera views!

All WAS Well In Sparkie-ville :( Crashed -

After a year of learning curves, I'm much more aware and careful with my DJI Spark. Most of my captures are mundane and personal. But with the FOURTH OF JULY, I was able to get up close and personal at Tenafly NJ High School where a June 30th show allowed me to capture the following edited and unedited explosions of light, color and sound in the sky! Stay tuned! I'll load them from my phone!
Maybe I spoke too soon? I was going to go on a sailing ship and document with the drone, but the weather was horrible. I went to the Palisades since the torrential rain had stopped and blue sky's replaced. I had just arrived about 4:30pm., an hour early when the message came through about the cancellation. I flew a flight, then headed home, stopping at the JCC. It was saturday and the parking lot was empty!

Hi, I just got my replacement DJI Spark in the mail. I only had to wait a couple weeks. I'm flying again and loving it. I hear this blog will be going away. So be it. I have started to set up a new blog and will keep you posted even though the you is me. tee hee.

Sparkie My Pet Drone by DJI was flying fine... Until it wasn't!
I made some stupid mistakes early in my "relationship" with DJI's Spark. I love it! What a great flying camera! Sure, its cost me a bit extra in repairs, I consider it learning curves. Still, shit happens and crashes are a natural offshoot of the hobby.
As a photographer, it think flying a DRONE is the cats meow. Here's a recent video, short and sweet, I made of the Frozen Hudson River in Piermont, NY:

Death of Sparkie #2
Yup, inattention and distraction led to Sparky crashing into a tree. As I was flying my neighbor came to his car and started to speak with me. I showed him the picture on my screen that my DJI spark was transmitting although I was having problems with the compass and it could not set the home Point.
My error was not only one of inattention and distraction, but also in NOT doing a 10 point checklist before flying as I had not been flying for several days. Thinking that I would not be flying it far but just around to photograph the snow I launch from the roof of my moms car. This was a big mistake as it created compass errors and it made it impossible for the drone to know it’s home point.

I am much more careful with my replacement DJI Spark
Hi, Its true, I love flying. I can't wait to go out every day and fly. Now, I'm getting serious about photography from the sky. Sure its fun to just fly, but flying cinematically is a whole new ballgame when the quality is so good and the camera platform is rock steady. Check out yesterdays footage from the Hackensak River and Graveyard opposite the Bergen Maker Space.
I passed there on my way home and stopped in to pick up the Spark Leg Extensions; that were 3D printed for me there! Thank to Wynette the student helper who made it happen.

I was in the underground parking structure on the ground floor under the shops at Riverside parking along the river's edge. At one remote point, there's a viewing platform jutting out from the bank in a park-like setting. There was a woman enjoying her lunch on a bench nearby. nobody nobody else in sight. I walked past her onto the platform and got the shots.

I Killed Sparkie For Real
Unfortunately, for better or worse, I like to take risks. This time, it was a big mistake. I tried to follow a vehicle with Sparkie, matching its speed with Sparkie switched to "Speed" mode. I was not however, flying above the tree line. I thought I could clear a branch of leaves jutting out over the road.... you know the rest.
I saw it coming and reversed thrust, but it was too later. It was twilight so obstacle avoidance the would have usually stopped the drone, did not function.

Sparkie is still in my care. I’ve been having Email problems and can not get the return label from DJI’s fast repair service...but because I had begun to file a case and the discovered there was no need to file it was too late. The new Quadracopter got to me in just under a month. Not exactly speedy, but then again, I was having problems with my email that slowed the process as did my unretractable first filing for repair and then decided I didn't need anything fixed, BUT I COULD NOT REMOVE the case I began. That really screwed things up!

Finally got the email together and was able to send my DJI Spark back for replacement with a brand new Spark Drone thanks to my DJI REFRESH insurance program.
